Subject area and teaching grade: I will be a high school (9th-12th grade) ELA teacher.
Key features of the tool:
Grammarly is a proofreading AI tool that checks for spelling and grammar errors. It also provides feedback on sentence structure and word choice.
Diffit is an AI tool that allows teachers to search for materials that relate to their course content and can be catered to the specific grade level being taught. Diffit also offers premade worksheet and assignment layouts.
QuestionWell is an AI tool that, given a topic input, will create discussion questions and multiple choice question outlines that relate to the given topic. Teachers can then choose and modify said questions.
WordTune is an AI tool that offers ways to shorten or lengthen a given writing. It also has features to make writings more casual or formal.
Conker is an AI tool that creates quizzes and tests based on given topics and course standards.
Category: Both Grammarly and WordTune would fall under the category of Productivity Tools for Students, as they are aimed to help students improve their writing skills to meet academic standards. Diffit, QuestionWell, and Conker are AI tools that would be categorized as Lesson Planning aids, since they are more geared towards helping teachers create quizzes, tests, and materials for class discussions and activities.
How would I use them in the classroom?: All of the AI tools in my Symbaloo would be of great help to me in my high school English classrooms. Grammarly and WordTune could be used by my students when writing drafts of essays and written responses. Although they cannot use them on state testing, those tools could help them understand how to make their writing better, more concise, and up to grade level standards before their writing will be graded. They could also benefit my students who are ESL learners and have trouble writing in English at a high school level. I, as the teacher, could benefit from the use of QuestionWell, Conker, and Diffit since they would shorten my time spent on class preparation. By using these tools, I would not have to make every individual worksheet and quiz, but could rather use these AI tools to guide my lesson planning. All of the teacher-focused AI tools in my Symbaloo can create materials and discussion questions based on my given topic input, so I could rest assured that the quizzes and questions provided by these tools would be catered to both the grade level and topic I would be currently teaching. For example, instead of creating three individual vocab and written response quizzes, I could input the unit topic and possible vocab words into one of these tools and have all quizzes prepared in a few minutes rather than spend hours creating my own.
